What is a CRM software

To answer if a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software is important for homebuilders, we must first understand what a CRM software is. According to Salesforce.com’s article, What is CRM Software? A Comprehensive Guide and Historical Overview of CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software, “CRM software is a platform that connects [a businesses] departments, from marketing to sales to customer service, and organizes their notes, activities, and metrics into one cohesive system. Every user has easy, direct access to the real-time client data they need. This not only allows for unparallelled coordination across teams and departments, but also makes it possible for businesses to provide their customers with something extra ordinary: personalize, one-to-one customer journeys.”

Salesforce.com also stated, “However, before an organization can begin to reap the benefits of advanced CRM software solutions, it must first understand the features, functions, and capabilities that make CRM valuable. This will make it possible to better determine which tools and CRM solutions are the correct fit for a particular business.”

How did your sales team make their last sale?

Stop and think about when the last time your sales team sold a home in your latest community project. How did they get that lead? Did the prospect just walk in the sales center one day and say, “Hey, I live in my car and think I need something better. What do you have?”, or did he/she research online, find your information, reach out, and then you followed up with numerous meetings and calls? How long did the process last?  Did you only have to send 1 e-mail or was there months of follow-up?

If I had to guess, I would say they most likely found your info online first, and there was a ton of follow up.

Why a CRM software is important for home builders

What comes to mind when I think of ‘CRM software’ is the same thing that comes to mind when I think of a ‘successful home builder’. All departments must work together, communicate, and be on the same page, or else the end outcome isn’t great.

CRM software is essentially about managing prospects & clients, and as your client base builds, the need to keep better track of your sales & marketing pipelines and customer interactions increase, too.

There is much more to selling a home today than there used to be. Marketing must create content and fight through all media “noise”. Sales must follow-up with existing clients & prospects in a timely manner and with enticing material, and customer service must be ready at all times with online and offline support. And that’s only pre-construction! How do all of these departments work cohesively to make a successful sale?

This is exactly why integrating a CRM system is important for home builders. They must use a tool that allows them to work as an efficient team. And actually, it’s getting easier with popular CRM & Construction Management softwares, such as Buildertrend and Yardi, that are targeted specifically for home builders.
